Rainbow Falls is on the North side of Katoomba and when we saw it for the first time, we were not prepared in any way for just how beautiful these falls are, I really would rank them up there with some of the prettiest cascades on the Blue Mountains. They really are just that pretty.

They are so named because in the right conditions, the spray coming off the falls has been known to produce a rainbow effect at the top of the falls, sadly, it was not windy so we did not witness this namesake. They are approx 14mtrs in height with a main fall at the top that then spreads into a pretty, wide cascade.

Very easy to get to, look at the map below for details, but, basically less than 10 minute walk from your car, that gets you to the top of the falls, getting to the bottom of the falls safely is another matter. The rocks are slippery, there is no track to the bottom and it required scrambling and climbing to do so, we were also wearing anti-slip canyoning shoes that gave us a big safety advantage on the slippery rock surfaces. If you feel it is dangerous to do so, just don't try, it is a long way to the bottom for a very hard, abrupt stop.
