Cataract Falls gives you two nice drops for the price of one, this is either the first set of falls or the last set of falls that you come to when doing the South Lawson Waterfall Circuit walk, it is easy to get to from the bottom carpark if you choose to make it your first. There are a few steps and after rain, it can get a bit muddy underfoot, but just watch your step and you will be treated to a wonderful waterfall that is on Cataract Creek. Cataract Creek then flows downstream and feeds Federal Falls which is not too far away.
The two parts of the falls look quite different to each other, the top section is quite open with some top falls then a wide sloping rock shelf before it cascades over the lower part of the falls. Once you have enjoyed the top part of the falls, you can head back the way you cam, then continue on down to the lower falls which look more like the other waterfalls in this area with a main drop onto rocks / into a shallow pool.
Easy for kids of all ages, best to view after rain, but after a big downpour, these can change into a very angry torrent, which is a spectacle in itself, but I find them more pleasing to the eye with a moderate flow.
